PURPOSE: Provided is a method for producing pentaacetyl-beta -D-glucopyranose used as an intermediate in manufacturing medicines, chemicals and cosmetics, by acetylation of D-glucose with acetic anhydride in a high yield. CONSTITUTION: In this method for producing pentaacetyl-beta -D-glucopyranose by reacting acetic anhydride with D-glucose in the presence of a sodium acetate catalyst, 5-10 mol acetic anhydride is used based on 1 mol D-glucose and the reaction is carried out in an organic solvent.
