Machine has sheet feeder (12) which automatically introduces sheets from a pile for each machine cycle and a cutting unit, comprising dies and punches, fitted with three pairs of drive rollers (36,37,38) which transfer the sheet automatically into and out of the cutting unit. The pair of rollers (37) is situated inside the perimeter of the dies and they ensure the sheet transfer between punch and die. The highest roller of the pair (37) is free and the lower is permanently motor driven, so as to position the panel precisely against a stop (75), at which the punches act, without causing damage to the printed face of the sheet. A series of stops (39), advancing intermittently during a cycle, transfer the cut sheet (13) into a slotting unit (41,42) and leave it free to be raised by lower elastic deflectors so as not to be damaged by the permanently rotating slot cutters. Each series of stops is indexed as a function of the package height, so that the slot cutter for the hinge between the short side and the base is always made at a fixed unit position. Dies and punches which cut the sheet are divided into sub-assemblies each mounted on a module (17 to 20). The distance between modules are simultaneously adjustable.
