The protective enclosure has an access door (1) with permanent passages (6) for temporary cables connecting the exterior to the interior of the enclosure. The passages are covered by a plate (3) which can be removably fitted in a groove (11) in the edge of an opening in the access door. The cover plate is held in place by a lock mechanism.
