Cosmetic and/or dermatological use of tea plant extracts, having interleukin-8 release inhibiting action, e.g. inhibiting erythema and angiogenesis, improving skin brightness and controlling acne rosaceae
The cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical (specifically dermatological) use of extracts (I) of at least one species of tea plant (Camellia sinensis; Theacea family) for producing preparations for: (i) controlling release of interleukin-8 (IL-8) by cutaneous cells; (ii) modulating the propagation of inflammatory response in damaged skin and controlling erythema affecting the brightness of the skin); (iii) controlling angiogenesis affecting the brightness of the skin; and/or (iv) controlling acne rosaceae. Independent claims are included for: (a) topical cosmetic and/or pharmaceutical (specifically dermatological) composition comprising 0.005-30% (I) in a suitable carrier; and (b) a consmetic skin treatment process involving topical application of (I). ACTIVITY : Dermatological; Antiinflammatory; Antiseborrheic. MECHANISM OF ACTION : IL-8 release inhibitor; angiogenesis inhibitor. Addition of an aqueous propylene glycol extract (I') of white tea to normal human keratinocyte cultures at 0.005%, 0.01% or 0.05% inhibited IL-1beta -stimulated release of IL-8 by 11%, 22% and 37% respectively.
