Cleansing of contact lenses using a seawater based aqueous ionic solution with an ionic composition the same as seawater except for higher potassium and lower sodium, magnesium, calcium and chlorine concentrations
Cleansing of contact lenses, especially those in hydrophilic material, uses an aqueous ionic solution based on seawater of which the ionic composition is qualitatively that of seawater and quantitatively such that its pH is 4-9 or preferably 7-8 and its osmolality 150-700 and preferably 250-350 mOsm/kg The characteristics of the solution are: (1) a pH value preferably equal to or below the lowest pH values of seawater; (2) an osmolality below that of seawater; (3) an ionic composition which is qualitatively and quantitatively the same as seawater, save for the potassium concentration which is above and the Na, Mg, Ca and Cl concentration which are below that of seawater. The concentrations of ions are Naasterisk - 1300-1500 and preferably 500-1000 mg/l; Kasterisk - 4500- 6500 and preferably 5000-6000 mg/l; Mgasteriskasterisk - 50-1300 and preferably 100-500 mg/l; Caasteriskasterisk - 20-350 and preferably 40-200 mg/l; Clasterisk 4000-6000 and preferably 4500-5000 mg/l.
