A remote control command from a user's mobile telephone (8) is transferred over the telephone network (6) to a call receiving device (11) within a server (10). By means of a database of authorized users (12) and a call identifier extractor (13) and analyzer (14), a caller is authenticated and the necessary command is automatically transmitted (15) over the PSTN to the equipment to be controlled (2).
