The cutting assembly includes a pliers device (1) with a pair of pivotal cutting jaws (9,10) and a device (2) for determining the length of the cut sections of the longitudinal rod (4) being cut. The length-determining device includes a stop (30) mounted on a rail (28) perpendicular to the pliers device. The stop is fixed in position by a nut (34) and is disposed a specific desired distance from the jaws to define the length of the cut section.
