In a treatment and rehydration composition (A) for reducing the secondary effects of gastroenteritis in adults, comprising an intestinal antiseptic (e.g. nifuroxazide) or an intestinal transit modifier (e.g. loperamide or a clay), glucose and sucrose, the ratio of glucose to sucrose is such that the osmolality is 260-290 (especially 280) mOsm.
