Source of current for an electric arc welding or cutting torch comprises: (a) a multi-phase transformer with several intermediary outlets allowing discontinuous regulation of the current voltage or intensity by selection of a desired range of voltage or current values; (b) a system of fine regulation co-operating with the transformer and allowing a continuous regulation of the current voltage or intensity, by selection of a voltage or intensity within the desired range selected by the transformer.
