The parking brake includes a device for advancing the hydraulic brake piston (5) for creating a rear space (45) between a blocking pin (15) and a piece supported on the pin and preventing retreat of the piston. The rear space facilitates displacement of the pin between a first position in which the hydraulic brake piston is free to move and a second position in which the pin directly or indirectly block retreat of the hydraulic piston after the vehicle brakes have been applied. Independent claims are included for a braking system; and a process for immobilizing a motor vehicle by applying the mechanical blocking element after application of the hydraulic brake.
