The vortex generator comprises a rigid retractable vortex generating plate (1) projecting from the vehicle bodywork. The thickness of the triangular plate is of the order of a few millimeters and its most significant dimension is of the order of a few centimeters. The plate engenders a vortex (A) which is opposite to and cancels the vortex (B) engendered by the air flow (V0) due to the forward movement of the vehicle. An Independent claim is included for a vehicle with a vortex generator plate.
