Method of identification and authentication without specific reader of marking on an object or living thing, uses visual comparison between marking and image of mark held on database and sent over communication network

The method makes use of a three-dimensional marking (1,9,10,11) on the object or living thing which can be identified using visual or tactile senses (A,A'). The marking is difficult to reproduce. To confirm validity, the user uses a communication network (5) to access an image (2) of the marking held in a database (4), and compares marking and image by eye (D).
