Indium benzoates (I) are new. Indium benzoates of formula (I) are new. X = chloro or bromo; R = 1-10C linear or branched alkyl, fluoro, chloro or bromo; y = 0-5; and x = 1-3. An Independent claim is also included for a method for acylating aromatic compounds (II) that uses (I) as catalyst.
