The pastry shells are sealed in plastic film (10) in a machine which has a support plate (3) moving backward and forward. A welding head (4) is raised and lowered by an electric motor (5), and a grip (15) opens and closes on to the free edge (14) of the plastic film. A mechanical transmission (20) from the electric motor shaft (21) opens and closes the grip in step with support plate movement.
