In the production of flame retardant yarns, fibers and/or filaments based on a thermoplastic matrix (A), at least one flame retardant (I) (or (I)-containing composition) is deposited on the yarns, fibers and/or filaments while being transported during their production and/or treatment. Independent claims are included for: (a) flame retardant yarns, fibers and/or filaments, either containing (I) at 0.01-5 (preferably 0.02-3) wt. % or containing (in)organic phosphorus compounds as (I) in an amount of 0.001-1 (preferably 0.05-0.02) wt. % as phosphorus; (b) textile articles formed at least partially from yarns, fibers and/or filaments produced as above or containing (I) in amounts as above; (c) the use of (I) (or (I)-containing compositions) for coating yarns, fibers and/or filaments while being transported during their production and/or treatment; (d) the use of sizing compositions containing (I) for producing flame-retardant yarns, fibers and/or filaments; and (e) sizing compositions containing (I) and compound(s) for modifying the surface of yarns, fibers and/or filaments.
