The cell search optimization process memorizes correlation profiles. For each successive window pair an estimation of whole number of derivative hypothetical changes is made (14). Each estimation calculates a correlation profile (16) and the hypothetical and real profiles are compared. Validation is carried out of the largest correlation peak (18).
