Cosmetic composition (A) contains at least one rhamnose compound (I), a fucose compound (II) and an excipient (III). ACTIVITY : Dermatological. MECHANISM OF ACTION : (I) and (II) act, respectively, on surface keratinocytes and dermal fibroblasts, particularly by inhibiting degradation, caused by free radicals, of hyaluronic acid (HA). A solution of HA (initial viscosity about 900 cp) was tested for degradation caused by free radicals generated from a system of ascorbic acid, iron and EDTA, (a) in absence of RROP (rhamnose-rich oligo- and polysaccharides) and (b) in presence of 500 Microg/ml of RROP. After 20 hours, the viscosity had fallen to about 600 cP in (a) but only to about 770 cP in (b), i.e. RROP gave 52% protection against decomposition of HA.
