Preparation of a reagent (I), for staining cells, particularly blood and bone marrow, comprises (a) diluting at least one blue dye (azure I) in a suitable solvent; (b) diluting at least one red dye (eosin) in the same solvent and (c) mixing the two solutions in methanol. An independent claim is also included for (I) prepared by the new process.
