Methods for identifying and developing compounds that may interact with voltage-gated potassium channels of the Shal (Kv4) family. Transgenic nematodes of the species Caenorhabditis elegans that are suitable for use in these methods are also described. Transgenic C. elegans of the invention include strain UG1598 (accession no LMBP 5851CB) and strain UG161 (accession no LMBP 59652CB).
