The high visibility safety garment, particularly for those who only use such garments occasionally, in poor light conditions etc., comprises a garment portion 11 adapted to be worn around the upper torso of a user and which comprises high visibility material and/or has high visibility areas provided thereon. The garment also comprises a pouch portion 2 out of which the garment portion can be deployed from a stowed position for wearing and a belt attachment portion whereby the pouch portion can be attached to a belt around the users body, in particularly when the garment portion is stowed therein. The garment portion preferably comprises a lightweight material suited for folding, rolling etc. and is adapted to be worn generally over the upper torso of the user and takes the form of a waistcoat, vest, gilet etc. which generally surrounds the torso when worn. The pouch preferably is not fabricated from a material with high visibility properties, with the garment portion preferably being integrally connected to the pouch portion with an external edge of the garment portion being attached to an inside surface of the pouch portion. When the garment portion is being worn the pouch portion preferably lies on an inner surface of the garment in a flat configuration. The pouch can preferably be securely closed when the garment portion is stowed therein and the belt is preferably integral with the pouch.
