PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a wire rod for steel wire which has scale having the optimal adhesion and detachability on its surface by controlling the thickness and composition of the scale of the wire rod by a producing condition, and to provide the wire rod for steel wire.;SOLUTION: In the method for producing the wire rod for steel wire, which contains, by mass, 0.6-1.0% C, 0.10-0.30% Si, 0.20-0.70% Mn, 0.003-0.020% P, 0.002-0.015% S, 0.01-0.10% Cr and the balance Fe with impurities, when A value ecpressed in the equation (1) {A=0.05Si(wt%)+2S(wt%)+0.1Cr(wt%)} is ≥0.015 and 0.03, a coiling is performed at 860°C to 920°C, and when the A value is ≥0.03 and 0.045, the coiling is performed at 800°C to 860°C.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
