PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a safety device for a machine tool equipped with a means to generate weight balance of an elevating/sinking member and a shock absorbing means to prevent the elevating/sinking member from falling off or steep rising, wherein the effects of the two means are exerted by a single device.;SOLUTION: The safety device of the machine tool is equipped with an air cylinder 151 installed above or below the elevating/sinking member 7 with which a piston rod 152a able to make advance and retreat is coupled, a piston 152 installed inside the air cylinder 151, a first chamber 151a and a second chamber 151b partitioned by the piston 151, a first pressure holding means 155 and 156 to hold the pressure in the first chamber 151a constant at all times, a solenoid valve 153 installed between the pressure holding means 155 and 156 and the first chamber 151a and restricting the flow of a fluid when the power is shut off or the like, and a second pressure holding means to hold inside the second chamber 151b at a pressure different from the fluid pressure in the first chamber 151a.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
