PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for confirming alignment of a servo motor and an encoder in which fixing can be confirmed easily after replacement of an encoder, breakdown of the apparatus due to incorrect fixing can be prevented, and reliability of a system employing the encoder can be enhanced, and to provide a servo motor controller with a function for confirming replacement of the encoder.;SOLUTION: Output position a of an encoder is read out (S1) without feeding a current to the tree-phase winding of a servo motor, electrical angle of the servo motor at the current position a is calculated (S2), the servo motor feeds the three-phase current of a phase to be stopped to the tree-phase winding at that position (S3), position b where the servo motor stopped after rotating with the current thus fed is read out (S4), difference c between the position a and the position b is determined (S5), and an alarm is outputted if the difference c is larger than a preset reference value r otherwise replacement is ended (S6-S8).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
