METHOD FOR IDENTIFYING MYELODYSPLASTIC SYNDROME-SPECIFIC GENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that, in spite of relatively high incidence of myelodysplastic syndrome(MDS), there are substantially no effective means for treating MDS patients under progression, whereas, although DNA microarrays are regarded as a tool useful for clarifying the molecular etiology of MDS and developing new methods for treating MDS, simple comparison using DNA microarrays for myelomonocytes extracted from individuals with different MDS progression stages results in isolating "pseudopositive" genes whose change in expression reflects merely the proportion of MDS gemmules in the bone marrow.;SOLUTION: The subject method for identifying an MDS-specific gene comprises refining AC133 cell surface marker positive hematopoietic stem cells from the bone marrow of healthy volunteers and 30 MDS patients and using the stem cells for comparing expression profiles for 2304 gene by microarrays prepared. Thereby, a group of genes being specifically expressed in either a slow progression stage or progression stage can be isolated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
