PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance flexibility and convenience by enhancing the quality of a retrieval result in a retrieval requested by inputting a numerical word constituting the content of a document. PSOLUTION: This document retrieval system comprises a basic information generation part determining, on receipt of input of a numerical word, the kind of a numerical value contained in the numerical word and generating the kind obtained as the determination result and the numerical value as numerical retrieval basic information; and an index information generation part generating one or more pieces of index information used as an index for retrieval for a document. The index information generation part generates, as the index information, non-numerical word index information containing non-numerical word emergence information relevant to the emergence of a non-numerical word in the document and numerical word index information containing numerical information corresponding to the kind of the numerical word which emerged in the document and the numerical value of the numerical word.
