PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating an occupant protection system having a simplified ignition circuit and capable of controlling operation timing at a low cost.;SOLUTION: In this method, an impact detection sensor 121, an electronic control unit 1, at least two igniters, SQ1, SQ2, SQ3 and SQ4, and harnesses are included. An amount of electric energy required for an operation is different in at least two igniters. A pair of harnesses are connected to the electronic control unit 1 in relation to at least two igniters. The pair of harnesses are branched into at least two pairs or more in the midway and are connected to at least two igniters in parallel.
