PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the most objectively balanced front face image to be selected and stored unfailingly from a series of successive images in a device for detecting a face image.;SOLUTION: The optimal face image recording device is so composed that it records data of an image shot by a camera, detects a face from the recorded image data in a predetermined manner, determines a face image as the same face if the face image exists in a fixed area within a fixed time with regard to the detected face image, designates the state as the same face image tracking period for one time if the determination continues, sequentially selects and renews the best shot image during the same face image tracking period for one time in a predetermined evaluation method, collects information to be associated with the best shot image during the same face image tracking period for recording, and records the collected information.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
