PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a short carbon nanotube for a catalyst carrier, its manufacturing method, a catalyst using the carbon nanotube as a catalyst carrier, and a fuel cell using it. PSOLUTION: This short carbon nanotube for a catalyst carrier is open at both ends and has a length of not longer than 300 nm and an aspect ratio of 1-15. It has a large surface area and is excellent in electric conductivity, and a metal catalyst can be carried even in its inside because its both ends are open. This catalyst carried by the carbon nanotube can increase utility of the catalyst, decrease consumed quantity of the catalyst, and make the diffusion of a fuel effective, because of its large effective specific surface area, thus, if it is used for a fuel cell, an output density of an electrode and an energy density of the fuel cell will be improved and high cost competitiveness can be secured.
