PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for mixing which carries out mixing processing of sound information sent from a plurality of spots with a minimum arithmetic quantity without deteriorating its sound quality.;SOLUTION: By the method for sound mixing, sound signals sent from a plurality of spots are made to be hierarchically encoded information provided with basic layer information and expanded layer information. Hierarchically encoded basic layer information is mixed at all the spots. About the expanded layer information, high-priority expanded layer information is selected.
