SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR STORING HIGH-LEVEL WASTE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for realizing a sufficient ventilation in a storage cavity of high level waste and storing the high level waste underground. PSOLUTION: In one aspect, the system is provided with a cavity which receives and stores high-level waste canisters and a major portion of the cavity, is arranged underground, and is provided with at least one inlet ventilation duct extending from the inlet over the ground to the outlet underground into the cavity. In another aspect, the system is provided with a main body having the cavity for receiving a canister, an inlet ventilation duct forming a passage from the surrounding air intake to the outlet to the cavity, and at least one support body for supporting the canister in the cavity so that the bottom of the canister comes lower than the top of the outlet.
