METHOD FOR EXTRACTING EDGE FEATURE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for extracting edge features, having superior processing efficiency and high extraction accuracy. PSOLUTION: In the method for extracting the edge of the feature from mesh altitude data 1, wherein each cell of the meshes into which the surface of the ground is divided is provided with altitude data, the differences in the attitudes between each cell and the surrounding cells are obtained for each cell in the mesh altitude data 1; the surrounding cells is then categorized into one of contour areas having prescribed up and down threshold widths with the center at the altitude of the cell of interest and high and low areas above and below the contour area; the arrangement pattern of the kind of the area surrounding the cell of interest is thereafter compared with a model pattern 2, which is defined in advance for the edge-constituting cell; and the cell agreeing with the model pattern 2 is extracted as the edge-constituting cell.
