PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new enzyme for converting scyllo-inosose obtained by oxidation of myo-inositol into D-chiro-inosose and to provide a new method for efficiently producing D-chiro-inositol by starting from scyllo-inosose.;SOLUTION: Scyllo-inosose isomerase having enzyme activity for converting scyllo-inosose into D-chiro-inosose, especially scyllo-inosose isomerase composed of protein having an amino acid sequence of sequence number 1 or 2 of the sequence table is obtained. A DNA fragment containing a DNA of sequence number 3 or 4 encoding the isomerase is obtained by a genetic engineering technique. The new method for producing D-chiro-inositol comprises treating scyllo-inosose with the scyllo-inosose isomerase to form D-chiro-inosose, chemically reducing D-chiro-inosose to convert it into D-chiro-inositol.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
