PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fringe pattern biological membrane carrier for water treatment wherein a tuft is a carbon-containing material wherein carbon particles or powder are mixed or stuck to a synthetic resin and/or a carbon fiber when water treatment of dirty water such as sewage, industrial waste water and domestic waste water is applied by a biological membrane contact oxidation method, a unit comprising the carrier, and a cleaning method. PSOLUTION: In the fringe pattern biological membrane carrier for water treatment, when the water treatment is applied, a core material whose contact material is a synthetic fiber is orthogonal to the tuft of the carbon-containing material wherein the carbon fiber or/and carbon particles are mixed or stuck to the synthetic resin, and the ratio b/a between the tuft length a and the tuft length b is that the former is 0.5 to 2.5, and the latter is 1.0 to 2.5. Preferably, in the fringe pattern biological membrane carrier unit for water treatment (as shown in the figure), the both ends of the core material is fixed to a cylindrical fabric material so that the directions of the adjacent tufts of the carrier are different. Furthermore, in the water treatment method, the carrier or/and the unit is/are installed under the water, and micro bubbles are diffused at the full surface from the underwater bottom part by using a membrane type diffusion tube.
