METHOD FOR TREATING WASTE WATER GENERATED DURING NITRATION REACTION OF TOLUENE

PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste water generated during the nitration reaction of toluene. PSOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of: (a) mixing acidic waste water and alkaline waste water from a washing step (1) with a water-soluble distillate from a sulfuric acid concentrating step (2) and adjust the pH of the obtained mixture to 5; (b) separating the pH-adjusted mixture into an aqueous phase and an organic phase by phase separation; (c) sending the aqueous phase from the step (b) to an extraction step; (d) extracting an organic component existing in the aqueous phase by toluene; and (e) introducing a toluene phase enriched with the organic component into a toluene nitrating step.
