PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adjusting attenuation afterwards even in the case of a once manufactured optical attenuation optical fiber, the optical attenuation optical fiber of which the attenuation is adjusted by using this method, and further, a fixed optical attenuator using this optical attenuation optical fiber.;SOLUTION: The attenuation is adjusted by inputting high output pulse laser light to the fixed optical optical attenuator 1 and using heat generation and diffusing phenomenon due to absorption of laser light by a dopant for optical attenuation such as Co. Change of the attenuation is always monitored by an optical power meter 7. Thus, since the attenuation of the once manufactured optical attenuation optical fiber can be adjusted after manufacture, it is unnecessary to prepare various optical attenuation optical fibers beforehand, and a low-cost optical attenuation optical fiber can be obtained.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
