PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power line communication apparatus, equipped with a function of measuring electric waves which are to be radiated from a power line, without giving hindrance to other radio equipment. PSOLUTION: A signal generator 22, which is disposed at a predetermined distance d2 away from an incoming line 3 and generates a test signal with the same frequency as that of a power line-carried signal and an antenna 11 for measurement, having the know gain output transmission power at a lawful power level. A receiver 20 is arranged at an installation location of a power line communication modem and measures the received power, due to the antenna effect of the incoming line 3 to the transmission power. Since radio gain, which is the ratio between the transmission power and the reception power has reversibility between transmission and reception, the received power by the antenna 11 for measurement, with respect to the transmission power from the power line communication modem, is predicted by multiplying the obtained radio gain by a planned value of the transmission power to be outputted from the power line communication modem. The field strength of the radiated electric waves, at the location the predetermined distance d2 away from the incoming line 3 is calculated, based on the predicted value of the received power.
