PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color gamut mapping system in which luminance compression varies across different parts of an image. PSOLUTION: The color gamut mapping system includes: an image processing module for transforming an input image into a luminance component LSBin/SBand chrominance components, CSB1/SBand CSB2/SB; a spatial low pass filter, responsive to LSBin/SBfor outputting a filtered luminance component LSBf/SB; and a luminance compression module responsive to LSBf/SBand LSBin/SBfor outputting a compressed luminance signal LSBout/SBthat is within the achievable luminance range of an output device.
