PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth retaining device and an earth retaining method for preventing sediment from entering on the other side of a rising weir part while increasing amount of charged sediment and preventing an upper end of the rising weir part from protruding above the compacted charged earth when charging sediment.;SOLUTION: This earth retaining device 1 is provided with the rising weir part 3 for retaining earth. The rising weir part 3 is constituted in such a way that a part 3a higher than an intermediate part position in the direction of height is bent and inclined at the intermediate part position to reduce its height. Sediment is charged on one side of the rising weir part 3 and is pressed from above to compact it, and then an upper part of the rising weir part is bent and inclined to reduce its height using the earth retaining device 1.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
