PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mercury measuring method which enables a continuous measurement of mercury in gas by a simple structure so as to fractionate metal mercury and divalent mercury, and a mercury measuring instrument therefor.;SOLUTION: In this method for constinuously measuring the total mercury (metal mercury+divalent mercury) in the gas so as to fractionate metal mercury, a first column 1 packed with a first fixing catalyst and a second column 11 packed with a second fixing catalyst are connected side by side and the gas G is injected in the first and second columns 1 and 11. Divalent mercury is collected and removed by the first fixing catalyst of the first column 1 while permitting only metal mercury in the gas to pass to be reduced to metal mercury by the second catalyst of the second column 11 and metal mercury in the gas containing metal mercury produced by the reduction of divalent mercury is passed through the first column 1. Metal mercury containing no divalent mercury in the gas after the passage through the first column 1 and metal mercury in the gas containing metal mercury resulting from the reduction of divalent mercury after the passage through the second column 11 are respectively measured by mercury measuring instruments 4 and 15.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
