PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the yield and to reduce manufacturing cost while preventing the deterioration of optical coupling characteristic in optical fibers.;SOLUTION: In moving an optical fiber on the basis of the detection result of the presence and no presence of an optical fiber; after the detection state of the optical fiber is reversed, the movement is repeated several times while the moving quantity is gradually decreased and then, the tip end position of the optical fiber is detected at the position at which the moving quantity becomes a prescribed threshold value or below. Also, the optical fiber is rotated successively at a plurality of different angles and held, the tip end position of the optical fiber is detected each time as above, and an eccentric quantity from the rotating center of the optical fiber is determined by the detection data. Thus, a correction value for the push-in quantity of the optical fiber is calculated which is required for the holding angle at the time of machining. Using this correction value, the optical fiber is controlled so that it is accurately pushed in by a prescribed quantity.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
