PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an inexpensive stainless steel wire rod for a high-tensile bolt having excellent cold forging properties, to remarkably reduce the production cost of a high-tensile bolt, and to secure the durability (reliability) of the high-tensile bolt.;SOLUTION: The stainless steel wire rod for a high strength bolt has a composition comprising, by mass, 0.02 to 0.09% C, 0.1 to 1.0% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, 0.1 to 1.5% Ni, 10.5 to 15% Cr and 0.01 to 0.06% N, and further comprising one or more kinds of elements selected from 0.05 to 0.5% Nb, 0.005 to 0.5% Ti, 0.05 to 0.5% V, 0.05 to 0.5% W, 0.05 to 0.5% Ta and 0.05 to 0.5% Zr as carbonitride forming elements, in which 2C+N is 0.07 to 0.16%, and also has a tensile strength of 400 to 700 N/mm2.
