PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parallel type lightning arrester that is capable of operating in time for abrupt overvoltage of lighting and has a large passing electric charge amount.;SOLUTION: The parallel lightning arrester comprises a specific element lightning arrester 1, and an external gap 2 which are disposed in series, and operates at a lower voltage than the discharge voltage of the specific element lighting arrester. Furthermore, the parallel lightning arrester comprises an emission lighting arrester 3, having a larger allowable electric charge amount than the specific element lightning arrester 1, or a specific element lightning arrester 1' which is disposed in parallel.
