PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adequately extract a line drawing image from a cartoon in which dots of a tone image are contained. PSOLUTION: A cartoon line drawing image forming method includes the following steps: a step in which the image 100 of a comic is separated into a tone image 200, a solid image 300 and a line drawing image 400, and a line width on each position on the line of the line image is computed, and then the line drawing image is thinned; a step in which the line drawing image thus thinned is subjected to vectorization processing, and branch parts 702-710 generated on the line drawing image by the dots are extracted from vector data; and a step in which the vector data of a line drawing image 900 having no branch part are generated by erasing the branch parts and stored in a recording means 20 in association with the tone image 200 and the solid image 400.
