PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems of a conventional method for protecting a wooden column from rotting in the natural environment: that preservatives, usually used by direct application, impregnation, or pressurized injection using special devices, could leach out with the lapse of time, adversely affecting the natural environment and raising the cost and durability problems; that similar problems arise with wooden columns of a wooden construction.;SOLUTION: For a wooden column 18 in the natural environment, only the pedestal 11 of wood 2 prone to rotting is surrounded with a solid, bottomed protector 1 and a preservative 4 is injected into cavities 3. The top 9 of the column is protected by a caulking compound 10 to prevent leaching of the preservative 4 and to impregnate the core of the column with the preservative.
