PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a capacity display system during data file copying and a capacity display method during data file copying in which the capacity of transfer destination after copying is accurately grasped prior to copy transfer of a data file.;SOLUTION: The capacity display system is provided with a means which receives each data file size from a first recording and reproducing device, a means which computes a necessary capacity to record all data files based on the file sizes, a means to transmit the computed necessary capacity, a means which transmits the file sizes to a second recording and reproducing device when the first recording and reproducing device executes data file copying at the second recording and reproducing device, a means which receives capacity information and a means which displays the capacity of the second recording and reproducing device after copy operation is completed prior to executing the copying.
