PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive optical waveguide and a manufacturing method therefor, relating to the optical waveguide such as a photo-coupling device used for communication and the manufacturing method therefor.;SOLUTION: The optical waveguide is composed of a lower clad layer 11 and a core 12 which is formed on this lower clad layer 11 and varies in thickness in the propagation direction of the light and is tapered in the width direction, and the above core 12 is made of a material of which the softening temperature is lower than that of the lower cladding layer 11 by 30°C or more, and since the core 12 can be worked by heat-press with deformation of the lower clad layer 11 made sufficiently small, an inexpensive optical waveguide can be provided.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
