PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet light absorber for use in photosensitive laminated printing original plates for letterpress printing, capable of forming an ultraviolet-opaque masking layer forming a masked image layer with high contrast through easily forming an ultraviolet-transparent region without roughening a photosensitive resin layer underneath, and to provide a method for producing the ultraviolet light absorber. PSOLUTION: The ultraviolet light absorber consists of a compound of specific structure containing an azo methine group(-N=CH-). This compound has the ability to absorb ultraviolet light in an alkaline or neutral atmosphere with the maximum absorption wavelengths of 300 to 400 nm but exhibits no ultraviolet light-absorbing ability in an acidic atmosphere.
