Weight measurement for patient bed and method of measuring the patient's body weight

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sickbed enabling weight measurement of a patient while keeping the patient laid down to reduce physical burden imposed on the patient and a weight measuring person.;SOLUTION: In this sickbed, either left or right end of the sickbed is lifted up while laying a patient down on it to measure a force F1 required for lifting. Then, mattress is laterally shifted in the axial direction of the sickbed with a patient laid down and the same end is lifted up again to measure a force F2 required for lifting. From the difference ΔF between such measured forces F1 and F2, calculate the patient's weight f4 according to the following equation: f4=ΔF×L2/ΔL-f3 (where: ΔF = difference between two forces F1 and F2 required for sickbed lifting, i.e., (F2-F1); L2 = width of mattress; ΔL = laterally-moved distance of mattress; and f3 = total weight of mattress and its movement mechanism).;COPYRIGHT: (C)2002,JPO
