PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart excellent hair setting and hair gloss and overcome rheological defects found in a conventional hair gel.;SOLUTION: This hair treatment agent comprises (A) at least one species of itaconic acid monoester/acrylate copolymers and (B) at least one species of combinations of nonionic, anionic and amphoteric or double ionic polymers. The itaconic acid monoester is expressed by general formula: CH₂= C(COOR¹)CH₂COOR² [wherein one of the substituents R¹ or R² expresses H, the other expresses a group expressed by -(CH₂CH₂O)_x-R³ wherein x expresses 1-100 and R³ expresses an 8-30C alkyl].
