PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the convenience for a user by providing a sound volume adjusting method and device capable of changing the way to divide a time period for performing sound volume automatic adjustment in accordance with broadcast contents, a viewing time or a viewing style of the user. SOLUTION: In this sound volume adjusting device for automatically adjusting outputted sound volume of a sound signal inputted through an input system 11 and an input changeover switch 12 into prescribed sound volume on the basis of a sound volume level preset in each time period and outputting the prescribed sound, a microprocessor 14 prepares the history data showing the history of appropriate sound volume adjustment in which the user appropriately adjusts a preset sound volume level to a desired sound volume level, and the way to divide the time period is changed on the basis of the history data.
